Mohan Appointed YouTube CEO, Web3 Plans to Follow

Google’s YouTube has appointed Neal Mohan as its new CEO, following the departure of Susan Wojcicki this week. Wojcicki, who had been at the helm of YouTube for nine years, is now focusing on family, health, and personal projects. She will remain an advisor for Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc.
Mohan had previously served as YouTube’s chief product officer, overseeing the removal of the video dislike button, the introduction of YouTube Shorts, and YouTube Music. He also announced tentative plans to integrate a host of new features such as Metaverse-based content experiences and content tokenization via nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
Mohan believes that NFTs could provide creators with a new way to engage with their audiences and develop additional revenue streams. He stated that creators could tokenize videos, photos, art, and experiences to monetize them in ways not previously possible.
Despite the plans being announced in February 2022, they have yet to be implemented. However, with Mohan now at the helm, it is likely that they will be given another push.
The news of Mohan becoming the new CEO of YouTube has been met with surprisingly little backlash from NFT skeptics on Twitter, who are usually quick to criticize anything to do with mainstream connections to the tech. This could be a sign that the NFT space is becoming more accepted and embraced by the mainstream.
