BoJ to Launch “Digital Yen” Pilot in April 2023

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) has announced plans to begin a pilot program for its central bank digital currency (CBDC) in April 2023. This follows the completion of a proof-of-concept testing phase, which began in 2021. The program will involve private businesses and will be used to test a model of a CBDC ecosystem.
